Dear Mama is a support app for mothers in the UAE. You share personal things here, so this page explains in plain language what we collect, who can see it, and how to take it back.

The short version
  • We collect only what the app needs to work: your email, a few profile details, and what you choose to post.
  • Your baby's details and your daily check-ins are never shown to other members, brands, experts or event organisers.
  • Moms Chat messages can be matched to topics that brands and experts follow. They see the topic and the message text, never your name, email or account. This is on by default, and you can switch it off in More.
  • Moms Chat messages are deleted automatically 10 days after you post them.
  • We never sell your personal data and we don't run ads or tracking.
  • You can ask us to correct or delete your data at any time.

1. Who we are

“Dear Mama”, “we” and “us” mean the team behind the Dear Mama app at dearmama.health. We decide how and why your personal data is used. You can reach us at query@dearmamahealth.com.

We handle personal data in line with the UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on the Protection of Personal Data.

2. What we collect

  • Your account: email address, and the name and emirate you choose to add. You sign in with an emailed link, so we hold no password.
  • Your baby (optional): name, sex, date of birth and how they’re fed.
  • Daily check-in: how you say you’re feeling each day (a 0–100 level).
  • What you post: Moms Chat and club messages, reactions, Marketplace listings and photos, comments and upvotes on brand, service and organiser pages, and event registrations.
  • If you’re an expert, company or brand: your credentials or trade licence number and a scan of the document, a contact person, and the profile details you publish.
  • Settings and notifications: your preferences (such as anonymous by default) and the in-app notifications sent to you.

We don’t collect your location or contacts, and we don’t use analytics or advertising trackers. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (such as IP address and the pages requested) for security and reliability.

3. How we use it

  • To run the app: sign you in, show your profile, take part in chat, run the Marketplace and events.
  • To keep the community safe: moderate messages (including an automatic check that flags messages that look like medical advice from people who aren't verified experts), and investigate reports.
  • To verify experts, companies and brands before they appear in the app.
  • To show brands and experts what mothers are asking about, in the anonymous form described in section 4.
  • To contact you about your account, such as your sign-in link.

Our basis for this is your consent, given when you tick the box at sign-in and through the choices you make in the app, together with what is needed to provide the service you asked for.

4. Moms Chat, anonymous posting and topic signals

How it works. Verified brands and experts can register up to 10 keywords for the topics they cover, such as “colic” or “breast pump”. When a message in a public Moms Chat room contains one of those words, we save a “topic signal” so they can see what mothers are asking about.

What they see: the keyword, the message text exactly as written, the room name and the time.

What they never see: your name, email, account, or whether you posted anonymously. We don’t store who wrote a signal against it. Brands and experts are not told who you are, and our rules forbid them from trying to find out or contact you because of a signal.

What we do to limit it:

  • Private, invite-only clubs are never scanned.
  • A signal is a copy of the message text, and it is deleted automatically after 10 days, together with the message itself.
  • An expert's own messages never create a signal for themselves.
  • We can remove a keyword, or a brand's or expert's access, if it is misused.

What to be careful about. Because the message text is shown as written, anything you type in it, such as your name, phone number or address, would be visible to that brand or expert, and to every member of the room. Please keep identifying details out of public rooms. Posting anonymously hides your name from other members and from signals, but not the words you typed.

Your choice. Topic signals are on by default for every member. You can turn them off at any time in More, under Preferences, with the switch “Share my questions as topic signals”. Once it is off, none of your new messages are copied into signals. Signals already made are deleted within 10 days, and if you want one removed sooner, email us the message text (or the date, time and room) and we will delete it.

5. Who can see what

  • Other members: your name on your messages (unless you post anonymously) and comments. If you list something in the Marketplace, your name and email are shown to signed-in members, and your phone number only if you choose to show it.
  • Event organisers: when you register for an event, the organiser sees your name, email, phone number (if you gave one) and emirate, and can download them as a list.
  • Brands and experts: only the anonymous topic signals in section 4.
  • Dear Mama team: authorised team members can see accounts and posts for support, moderation and safety. We can see who wrote an anonymous message, but other members cannot. Verification documents can only be opened by our reviewers.
  • Nobody else: your baby’s details and your check-ins are not shown to other members, brands, experts or organisers.

6. Who we share data with

We don’t sell personal data, and we don’t share it for advertising. We use a small number of service providers who process data on our behalf to run the app:

  • Vercel, to host the app.
  • Turso, to store the app's database.
  • Cloudflare R2, to store uploaded photos and verification documents.
  • Resend, to send your sign-in email.

We may also disclose data if the law or a competent authority requires it, or to protect someone’s safety.

7. Where your data is stored

These providers run on cloud infrastructure outside the UAE. Our database is hosted in Mumbai, India. By using Dear Mama you agree to your data being processed there, and we require our providers to protect it.

8. How long we keep it

  • Your account, baby details and check-ins: until you ask us to delete your account.
  • Marketplace listings and their photos: deleted automatically 10 days after posting.
  • Events and their registrations: deleted once the event has passed.
  • Chat messages, in every room: deleted automatically 10 days after you post them, along with their reactions. A club that goes quiet is archived after 7 days of no posts and removed 14 days after that.
  • Topic signals (copies of matched message text, see section 4): deleted after 10 days, the same as the message.
  • Verification documents: kept while your expert, company or brand profile is active, then deleted if you ask.
  • Sign-in links expire after 15 minutes, and a signed-in session lasts 30 days.

9. Your choices and rights

You can ask us to:

  • show you the personal data we hold about you, or give you a copy;
  • correct anything that's wrong (you can also edit your name, emirate and baby details in More);
  • delete your account and the data tied to it;
  • stop using your data in a particular way, or withdraw your consent (this may mean we can no longer provide the service);
  • switch off topic signals (in More, see section 4), or remove one that already exists.

Email query@dearmamahealth.com from the address you signed in with. We aim to reply within 30 days. If you’re unhappy with how we handle your data, you can also complain to the UAE Data Office.

10. Keeping it secure

Connections to Dear Mama are encrypted. Verification documents are stored privately and never shown to members. Access to admin tools is limited to authorised team members. No system is perfectly secure, and if a breach puts your data at risk we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires.

11. Experts, companies and brands

If you apply as an expert, company or brand, the information you publish (such as your name or brand name, speciality, bio and contact details) is visible to members. Your credentials or trade licence are used only to verify you. The keywords you register are used only for the topic signals in section 4; you must not use those signals to identify, track or contact the mothers who wrote them.

12. Children

Dear Mama is for adults aged 18 and over. Details about a baby are provided by their parent or guardian and are used only to personalise that parent’s own experience.

13. Cookies

We use one essential cookie to keep you signed in. We don’t use advertising, tracking or analytics cookies.

14. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we’ll update the date at the top and ask you to agree again when you next sign in.
